Wet Woody's is going GREEN!

Wet Woody’s has founded the green initiative, No Wake. No Wake’s purpose is to bring awareness to protecting and enjoying the waters around St. John and the other islands of the Virgin Islands while boating. Because the heart of our business is to take our friends on boating adventures, exploring the beaches and the reefs teaming with marine life, we feel it is our responsibility to minimize the impact boating has on the environment. Through No Wake, we will highlight methods of reducing boating’s carbon footprint along with supporting community efforts of preserving and protecting our waters, reefs, and beaches. Additionally, Wet Woody’s will be working in collaboration with Friends of the Virgin Islands National Park to be the model in resource protection through our green boating efforts.

As part of No Wake, Wet Woody's has initiated the following practices:

  1. We have reduced the use of plastic containers on the boat. Our drinking water and beverages are now served in reusable stainless steel bottles.
  2. We are now promoting the use of reef friendly and natural sunscreens. Not only are these sunscreens better for you, they are also less damaging to the coral reefs and marine life.
  3. We will be purchasing carbon offsets based on the amount of fuel we burn throughout the year.

We hope that everyone gets involved and supports the initiatives we are promoting thru No Wake. Please feel free to email us your green boating ideas.

Cheers!

Wednesday was a Wet Woody's Day - Literally

Although the water was flat on early Wednesday, the sky was wet. Early morning showers passed through the islands as we set out for a day on the water with some friends that visit St. John often. They were much like everyone else this time of year.....escaping the cold of Chicago and Boston. We headed out of Cruz Bay for a fun day although the dreary weather was looming.
We had stops at the Indians and the Caves of Norman Island for a little snorkeling. One of our guests is a marine biologist. She loved getting to see all of the varieties of Caribbean marine life. She even viewed a spotted eagle ray while snorkeling at the caves.
One really cool thing about this time of year around all of the islands is all of the luxury yachts cruising around. Wednesday, we spotted the luxury yacht Alfa Nero anchored off of Norman Island. You can read about it here: http://www.luxury-insider.com/Regulars/Reviews_and_Commentary/Alfa-Nero-Yacht/. That was just one of the many yachts we were able to view while cruising around.
We made a stop at the Willy T for lunch then headed over to Jost Van Dyke. That is when the weather started to take a turn for the worse. The skies poured rain for the rest of the day. The wind picked up and the water was rough. But our guests still had fun hanging out at the Soggy Dollar Bar and Seddy's One Love for the rest of the afternoon.
Despite the weather, it was still another great day on the water aboard Bar-Tender with Wet Woody's.

Today We Circumnavigated St. John

When I rolled out of bed today, I thought we would be keeping the boat at home. The weather forecast was not favorable for a day on the water....boy, did those guys get it wrong! The weather was beautiful. There was not a cloud in the sky, the water was flat, and I got a last minute call to take a family out for the afternoon. Wet Woody's welcomed the Abromowitz family from Boston aboard for a day of cruising around St. John.
We cruised the south shore of St. John to start with stops at Tektite and Kittle Bay for snorkeling. Then we cruised on around the east end of the island with a quick spin through Coral Bay along the way. We had beautiful views of the east end of the island and could spot in the distance all of the yachts gathering in the Bite of Norman Island...the Willy T should be expecting a huge New Year's Eve party with the number of boats parked over there.
Our cruise along the north shore of St. John included a quick snorkel stop at Whistling Cay. From there we continued along the north shore cruising on out through the Cays of Lavango, Congo, Grass, Mingo, and Thatch before heading home to Cruz Bay.
All in all, I would say we had a great day on the water!

Family Day with Wet Woody's

Yesterday was a beautiful day on the water! The water was incredibly flat and there was a nice breeze to keep us cool all day. So the conditions were great for a day off of chartering and taking out our families. We had lunch at the Pirates Bite on Norman Island. Their rotis and ribs were awesome! After lunch, we headed over to the Willy T to say hello to our friend Zeus. Then, we wrapped up the day with a stop in White Bay on Jost Van Dyke. We said hello to our friends at the Soggy Dollar Bar while our families sipped on their world famous Painkillers (my personal favorite is the Banana Painkiller). What a beautiful day it was!

Wet Woody's Starts Blogging!

Who would have ever guessed that Heaven on Earth could be squeezed into a mere 20 square miles? That's exactly what you'll find when you arrive on St. John, the smallest of the Unites States Virgin Islands (USVI). St. John island packs a powerfully peaceful punch to those who set foot on its shores. It's simply the island of choice for travelers who are, first and foremost, seeking a relaxing tropical paradise experience.

St. John, USVI has the reputation of being the most beautiful, friendly and tranquil island in the Caribbean. St. John, (not St. Johns) is less than 20 square miles in area. (About 2/3 the size of the Dallas/Fort Worth Airport. St. John's population is about 5,000.
